Having just returned from another inspiring (and lucrative ;)) trip to Germany, I am still digesting all the beautiful encounters - personally - and musically!
After a solo performance at my former university, I was happy to perform with my old musician friends Dietmar Liehr on guitar, Bernhard Funk on double bass and Hubert Malik on drums at the sold out Kaffeehaus Thalia (picture top of the page, photo credit Katinka Molde). It was a sweet evening performing beautiful old tunes from New Orleans, Chicago, New York and Paris - from melancholy to hot and furious!
And the highlight was yet to come.... My dear friend Klaus Post from the University of Augsburg invited me to perform with vibes wizard and master musician Wolfgang Wilhelm Lackerschmid! (picture above, photo credit Klaus Post). This gives me an indirect connection to Attila Zoller and Chet Baker!
We played a variety of different styles - from Klezmer to trad. Jazz and Swing to Brazilian Choros and Chorinhos, even Classical, and of course own compositions, all treated gently!
Thank you, Wolfgang, for the great opportunity to play with you! (ENCORE! ENCORE!), my thanks to all the efforts of Klaus Post and the University of Augsburg for making it possible, and thanks to the great crowd!
And last but not least I did another solo performance at my previous high school, playing tunes that tell my story, and talking about music, life, and all they were curious about!
Check Wolfgang out on his website hipjazz.net or find numerous clips of him on youtube!
